Restored Gas Stations Along the Route
On our drive from OKC, we continued west, passing by many famous gas stations, some restored to their former glory, some in disrepair. Lucille’s is one of the restored ones…really cute!
An American Hero...Thomas Stafford
In Weatherford OK, we took a side trip to see the Thomas Stafford air/ space museum, and it was well worth the trip. The name doesn’t ring a bell? That’s your homework assignment, I’ll just say, he had “The Right Stuff”. He had an incredible career, and he is 88 years old this year.
We did see the famous “Leaning Tower of Texas” in Britten TX! We did pass by the Big Tex restaurant, and I passed on trying to eat the 72-ounce steak, (it’s free if you finish it under an hour, including the sides).
Kim made me stop to see the Cadillacs stuck in the ground outside of Amarillo, not high on my list. The panhandle of Texas is flat flat flat, with lots of windmills. We made our way into New Mexico, stopping for the evening in Tucamari, NM. The town slogan is Tucamari Tonight!
